METRO EAST CHAPTER OF CREDIT UNIONS
CHARITY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
August 26, 2008

The regular meeting of the CHARITY COMMITTEE of the METRO EAST CHAPTER OF CREDIT UNIONS was called to order by Chairperson Crystal Gracz at 8:35 a.m. on August 26, 2008 at Motor City Co-op Credit Union, Clinton Township, MI.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS PRESENT:
Crystal Gracz, Aaron Smith, Gail Hernalsteen, Kathy Figgs, Laura Beauregard, Barb Pitlik Becky Reini & Jenny Bulgrien.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS EXCUSED: All present

PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:
Motion made by Kathy Figgs and seconded by Aaron Smith to approve the minutes of May 20, 2008 meeting.  Motion carried.

OLD BUSINESS:
Relay for Life-Laura Beauregard reported on Relay for Life (RFL) held on June 7 & 8 at Sterling Heights High School. Crystal Gracz, Kathy Figgs, Gail Hernalsteen and Aaron Smith reported on their involvement and their impressions of the event.  Jenny Bulgrien reported on the Port Huron site. Onsite fundraising was low. At the Sterling Heights location $400 was collected.  The total for the chapter is $9,087.99. 

Habitat for Humanity –Kathy Figgs reported the final day for this charity is August 31, 2008.  All checks should be sent to her made out to “Habitat for Humanity-Women Build”.  The committee/chapter hosted a lunch for the build site on July 26th for approximately 25 women, Laura Beauregard took care of the delivery and reported that it went well and was appreciated by the crew.  The build house is still in process.

Phone Home for the Holidays - Crystal Gracz attended a reception presented by the Morale, Welfare & Recreation (MWR), accepting a medal and certificate on behalf of Metro East Chapter of Credit Unions for our contribution to the Phone Home for the Holidays program.  Crystal will forward any PR or photos to Jenny.

NEW BUSINESS
Phone Home for the Holidays-Crystal recapped the chapter’s involvement in the program last year.  The kick off is September 1, 2008 and will run through mid-November.  The actual cut off will be reported at the next meeting.  The notice was sent out by MCUL to Metro East Chapter of Credit Unions and distributed to committee members. Crystal will email the “pledge cards” to committee members this week.   It was reported that Belle River and E&A Credit Unions will be participating this year.

December Charity-For the period of mid-November until the end of the year, each Credit Union will choose their own charity to support over the holiday season.

October 21, 2008-Motor City Co-op Credit Union at 8:30 a.m.

Motion was made by Laura Beauregard and seconded by Aaron Smith to adjourn this meeting at 9:30 a.m.  Motion carried.
