METRO EAST CHAPTER OF CREDIT UNIONS
CHARITY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
June 5, 2007

The regular meeting of the CHARITY COMMITTEE of the METRO EAST CHAPTER OF CREDIT UNIONS was called to order by Chairperson Crystal Gracz at 8:40 a.m. on June 5, 2007 at Motor City Co-op Credit Union, Clinton Township, MI.

PRESENT:
Crystal Gracz, Sally Gibson, Karen Myers, Shirley Dolecki, Magda Bessenecker, Gail Hernalsteen, Becky Reini, Barb Pitlik.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS EXCUSED:
Kathy Figgs.  Dennis Moriarty resigned his position on the committee, but will support all charity efforts.  After several attempts to contact Tony Zahringer to no avail, motion was made by Gail Hernalsteen and seconded by Sally Gibson to remove Tony Zahringer from the list of committee members.

PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:
Motion was made by Crystal Gracz and seconded by Gail Hernalsteen to approve the minutes of April, 2007 meeting.

REVIEW OF MARCH OF DIMES/WALKAMERICA:
Gail Hernalsteen stated that there were several new volunteers this year.  The beautiful weather and wonderful giveaways at the Metro East Chapter Check Point helped account for a very positive response from volunteers and walkers.  It was suggested by Crystal Gracz to change the location of the Credit Union banner next year to ascertain that all walkers are aware that the Metro East Chapter is the sponsor of the checkpoint.  Gail Hernalsteen has added this to the agenda for next year’s March of Dimes/WalkAmerica.  Becky Reini is contacting Sara Wood for final donation amount.

OLD BUSINESS – CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK/NO HOMELESS STUDENT LEFT BEHIND:
Sally Gibson stated the “CU’s for Kids Coffee Order Form” offered on the MCUL website supporting CMN is no longer valid.  Sally also requested credit unions e-mail her with individual fund raising efforts (MCUL AC&E silent auction donations, dress down, lobby sales, etc.).

NEW BUSINESS – “PURPOSE” OR “OBJECTIVE” OF THE ME CHARITY COMMITTEE:
Gail Hernalsteen asked for recommendations for a purpose statement to attach to our Charity Committee.  Karen Myers and Crystal Gracz shared purpose statements.  Other committee members e-mailed Gail Hernalsteen with purpose statements.  As agreed at the meeting, committee members would receive an e-mail with a list of selections.  Unanimous choice for the purpose statement is “Keeping with the Credit Union philosophy of ‘People Helping People’, Metro East Chapter of Credit Unions Charity Committee will provide the necessary support to make a positive charitable impact within our combined communities.”  Motion was made by Shirley Dolecki and seconded by Sally Gibson to accept this as the committee’s purpose statement.

NEXT MEETING:
September 18, 2007 at Motor City Co-op Credit Union.

ADJOURNMENT:
Motion was made by Gail Hernalsteen and seconded by Barb Pitlik to adjourn this meeting at 9:50 AM.  Motion carried.
