METRO EAST CHAPTER OF CREDIT UNIONS
CHARITY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
April 17, 2007

The regular meeting of the CHARITY COMMITTEE of the METRO EAST CHAPTER OF CREDIT UNIONS was called to order by Chairperson Crystal Gracz at 8:37 a.m. on April 17, 2007 at Motor City Co-op Credit Union, Clinton Twp, MI.

PRESENT:
Crystal Gracz, Sally Gibson, Karen Myers, Kathy Figgs, Shirley Dolecki, Magda Bessenecker, Gail Hernalsteen.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS EXCUSED:
Dennis Moriarty, Tony Zahringer, Becky Reini, Barb Pitlik.

PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:
Motion was made by Gail Hernalsteen and seconded by Sally Gibson to approve the minutes of February, 2007 meeting.  Motion carried.

REVIEW OF GLEANER’S FOODBANK:
Total cash contributions to Gleaner’s Foodbank amounted to $1,570.58.   A total of 1,390 pounds of food was also collected.  Magda Bessenecker will provide Gail Hernalsteen with individual amounts for presentation to the Metro East Executive Committee.

MARCH OF DIMES/WALKAMERICA:
Gail Hernalsteen discussed the Metro East Chapter WalkAmerica checkpoint and asked for volunteers to assist with the checkpoint on Sunday, April 29th.  Committee members reported good results with donations and team walkers.

CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK:
The Metro East Charity Committee is sponsoring Children’s Miracle Network for May and June, 2007.  Sally Gibson provided committee members with a Fund Raising Guidebook from CMN.  Individual credit union marketing ideas and totals will be reported to Sally Gibson.

DISCUSSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR JULY – SEPTEMBER CHARITY:
Karen Myers contacted the Macomb Intermediate School District and reported that “No Homeless Student Left Behind” is a MISD program that assists students whose families have been misplaced due to financial hardship.  The charity accepts cash donations, Target gift cards, new backpacks, unused school supplies, etc.  No used supplies are accepted.  The Charity Committee unanimously agreed to support this charity for above noted months.  Further details regarding the program’s desired donation methods will be forthcoming and reported by Karen Myers at the next meeting.

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS:
Gail Hernalsteen asked that the Metro East Charity Committee minutes be posted on the Metro East Executive Committee website.  Gail also reminded committee members to contact MCUL to send email blasts announcing the charities the committee is sponsoring.

NEXT MEETING:
June 5, 2007 at 8:30 a.m. at Motor City Co-op Credit Union.

Motion was made by Shirley Dolecki and seconded by Gail Hernalsteen to adjourn this meeting at 9:39 a.m.  Motion carried.
