EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
September 1, 2011
The regular meeting of the EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE of the METROEAST CHAPTER OF CREDIT UNIONS was called to order by Drema Isaac at 9:02 a.m. at Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union.
PRESENT:
Drema Isaac, Lisa Burroughs, Marty Winiarski, Kathie Trembath, Gail Hernalsteen, Vicki McIntosh, Patty Campbell and Fran Pierce
COMMITTEE MEMBERS EXCUSED:
Jim Safian, Carolyn Edwards, Gary Sylvester and Jan Rose.
GUEST PRESENT:
Ron Martin, Lauren Vance, Crystal Gracz, Donna Siejutt and Jenny Bulgrien.
PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES:
Motion was made by Gail and seconded by Marty to approve the minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting held on August 4, 2011. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
The Treasurer’s Report for August was presented. A motion to approve the report was made by Marty and seconded by Vicki. Motion carried.
PROGRAM AND EVENTS:
Donna reviewed the written Program and Events Report. We discussed the upcoming chapter wide Home Ownership Seminar. Marty made a motion that the Chapter allocate up to $1,500 from the P and E budgeted funds to cover expenses for this seminar. Kathie seconded and the motion passed.
We also discussed the upcoming Holiday Party. We decide to keep the cash bar. The P and E Committee will decide which charity we will donate the gifts to with the Executive Committee supporting the idea of donating to Children’s Hospital. The next event is our Charity Golf Outing which will be held September 12. Lisa reported that we have 97 golfers registered. We may need to find a new venue for the outing next year.
GOVERNMENT & POLITICAL FORUM REPRESENTATIVE:
Patty reported on the recent Forum Meeting. October 12 is Capitol Day in Lansing and all are urged to attend. Our Legislative Breakfast will be October 17 at Christian Financial at 8:30 a.m. The CUNA GAC will be March 18 – 22, 2012 and the Michigan GAC will be April 17 – 18. The CURE golf outing will be July 25, 2012. Both of our PACs are doing well. The Forum voted to increase our contribution to CUNA’s PAC by $25,000. On the Federal front the key issues are MBL and Secondary Capital and on the state front the key issue is mortgage reform. We are also working on eliminating 4 rules for State Chartered Credit Unions.
CU DIFFERENCE CAMPAIGN:
Lauren did not have a formal report. Lauren introduced Jenny Bulgrien from E and A and announced that Jenny would be the new co-chair for the campaign.
MCUL REPRESENTATIVE:
Ron Martin provided a written report to the Committee highlighting the upcoming MCUL sponsored events. He mentioned that MCUL staff would be meeting with the NCUA on Sept. 6 and with OFIR on Oct. 4. If there are any questions or issues for the regulators please notify a league staff member. Ron reported on various staff changes at the league.

CHARITY COMMITTEE:
Crystal discussed the written report. She asked the Committee to suggest additional participants for the Charity Committee. She also reported that there will be no need to sort food at the Macomb Food Bank as we discussed last month, because they are out of food. The Committee may consider supporting the Macomb Food Bank instead of Gleaners as our upcoming charity.
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT:
Drema discussed the opening that we still have on the Executive Committee due to Jim Shereda’s resignation. If anyone knows of anyone who would like to become involved, please let Drema know.
Drema announced that since Premier Financial has merged with a Credit Union that is based outside of our District, Jim Safian will no longer be eligible to serve at a table officer of the Executive Committee. After discussion, Fran nominated Gail for the Vice Chair position, Patty seconded it and the motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS:
Gail announced that Steve Andrews is the new CEO at Motor City Co-op Credit Union effective September 7.
NEXT MEETING:
The October 6 meeting will be at Motor City Co-op Credit Union at 9:00.
