The regular meeting of the CHARITY COMMITTEE of the METRO EAST CHAPTER OF CREDIT UNIONS was called to order by Chairperson Crystal Gracz at 8:40 a.m. on June 2, 2009 at Motor City Co-op Credit Union, Clinton Township, MI.

Motion made by Aaron Smith and seconded by Laura Beauregard to approve the minutes of April 14, 2009 meeting as is. Motion carried.
March of Dimes- Gail Hernalsteen reported that the final totals are not yet available for the Chapter. The total to-date is $9500. This does not include walkers’ pledges or online donations. The final totals should be available at the end of June.
Relay for Life - Laura reported the Sterling Heights event is June 13 & 14. The Chapter will be hosting the Survivor Lunch, a Pamper Tent for survivors and Ice Cream Social for caregivers on Saturday, June 13th. Lunch is compliments of Abuelo’s Restaurant. Volunteers are still needed to decorate the tent and register survivors from 10:30 am to 1 pm. Volunteers are also needed from 4-6 pm to set-up, serve & clean up for the Ice Cream Social. Project Education – Homeless Children & Youth - Crystal Gracz reported that the charity for July & August will be Project Education – Homeless Children & Youth. This campaign will provides school supplies, personal hygiene items and gift cards to homeless or displaced students in Macomb County. Kathleen M. Kropf, Homeless Education Liaison for Macomb Intermediate School District indicated that the number of students in need has grown. The things they need the most for the fall are NEW backpacks, especially for females and secondary (middle and high school) students. Also, all types of school supplies, especially pens, colored markers, colored pencils and glue sticks. They include in the backpacks new socks and personal hygiene kits. They especially need female and children's socks of all sizes and any personal hygiene items. Any monetary donations can be made out to: MISD-Homeless Education.
